ODC-3 Seeds
- ODC-3 is a perennial type (10–20 years lifespan) with high pod yield.
 - Pods: 70–120 cm long, fleshy, non-fibrous.
 - Yield: 500–700 pods/tree per year after full establishment.
 - Growing from seeds provides:
- Strong taproot system (better drought tolerance).
 - Higher survival rate than cuttings.
 - Suitable for commercial farming.

Farming Method for ODC-3 (Using Seeds)
1. Climate & Soil
- Climate: Warm, tropical; 25–35°C.
 - Soil: Well-drained sandy loam, red soil, black soil; pH 6.5–8.
 - Avoid heavy clay soils and waterlogging.

2. Land Preparation
- Plough land 2–3 times for fine tilth.
 - Pit size: 45 × 45 × 45 cm.
 - Pit mixture:
- 10–15 kg FYM/compost
 - 250 g Neem cake
 - 25 g Trichoderma

3. Seed Selection & Treatment
- Use pure ODC-3 seeds with ≥90% germination.
 - Pre-treatment:
- Soak seeds in water for 8–12 hours to speed germination.
 - Treat with Carbendazim (2 g/kg) to prevent fungal disease.

4. Sowing
- Depth: 2–3 cm.
 - Spacing:
- For pod production: 6 × 6 ft (approx. 1200 plants/acre).
 - For leaf + pod production: 2 × 2 ft.

 - Sow 1 seed per pit.
 - Germination starts in 7–10 days.

5. Irrigation
- First watering after sowing.
 - Irrigate every 3–4 days in dry season.
 - Avoid waterlogging.

6. Fertilizer Application
- At planting:
- 50 g Nitrogen, 50 g Phosphorus, 50 g Potassium per plant.

 - Annual maintenance:
- 250:250:250 g NPK split into 2 doses.

 - For organic farming: 5–10 kg compost per plant every 6 months.

7. Pruning & Training
- First pruning: When plant reaches 60–90 cm (about 60 days).
 - Cut at 45 cm height to promote branching.
 - Maintain single main stem, prune annually after harvest.

8. Pest & Disease Management
- Pests: Pod fly, hairy caterpillar.
- Control with Neem oil (3%) or Bt spray.

 - Root rot: Use Trichoderma and avoid excess water.

9. Flowering & Harvest
- Flowering: 6–8 months after sowing.
 - Pods ready: 8–10 months.
 - Full yield: 2nd year onward.
 - Yield: 500–700 pods/tree/year for 8–10 years.
